Individual Sessions
Individual sessions are one-on-one sessions in which the therapist provides direct care to the client. Music therapy interventions are implemented to address measurable and data-based goals and objectives. Goal areas may go hand-in-hand with IEP goals, goals in other therapies, or other areas of need.
All of our individual music therapy sessions require an evaluation to determine if services will be beneficial for the prospective client. These evaluations will take course over the first few sessions and will be charged our normal session rate amount.
Evaluations typically include the therapist talking with caregivers and discussing possible goals for the client followed by a second portion where the client and therapist actively participate in music interventions to address these desired goals. Once the in-person evaluation is complete, the report will be completed and emailed to the responsible party within 2 weeks. If a client qualifies for services, scheduling will then take place.
Our team will review this process in more detail during the family’s free consultation.
Individual sessions are typically scheduled once per week, though session frequency can vary depending on the client's need. Populations that may be served in our facility include:
Disabilities
Your child will have our undivided attention during individual music therapy sessions. Every single intervention will be designed and implemented with your child’s unique needs in mind without the distraction of other group members.
Parents are encouraged to utilize suggested techniques at home such as transition songs, musical cues, or social stories set to music. The therapist will use session time to help your child develop new skills, promote meaningful growth, and develop ways that you can use music in your home to support development.
Music therapy sessions may involve active music making, instrument improvisation, singing, sound exploration, movement, relaxation, and/or listening. All interventions will be based on your child’s individual treatment plan.
Some of the diagnoses we see most often include (but are not limited to):

Mental Health
Music therapy helps clients connect to their emotions and experiences on a new level. Traumatic experiences are often stored in sensory memories instead of verbal and can be very difficult to access through traditional verbal therapy. Expressive therapies such as music and art can tap into these areas and help clients increase self awareness and begin the road to healing and discovery.
Clients often find it easier to express themselves through music using existing songs or writing music/lyrics to describe their experiences. A trained therapist supports that experience and guides the client to promote growth and change. Music therapy sessions include the use of active music making, music listening, and discussion.
Symptoms that music therapy can help manage include,
but are not limited to:
Stress
Anxiety
Trouble socializing
Depression
Low self-esteem
Trouble expressing oneself
Flat affect
Trouble coping
Pain
Some musical approaches we may use therapeutically in groups to address their specific needs include the following:
Songwriting
Lyric analysis
Active music making
Clinical improvisation
Music-assisted relaxation
Group singing
Role playing using music as means of communication
