Facility-Based Services

Helpful Harmonies Music Therapy is excited to come to your facility and provide services. Our therapists are trained to provide a multitude of approaches that fit the needs of not only one individual, but a whole group. During our education, music therapists are trained in the ability to lead and manage a group of people to work towards like-minded goals that will benefit everyone in the session. Our therapists also will provide all instruments, manipulatives, and resources needed to facilitate groups at your facility.

We also have a strict cleaning plan in place to adhere to all safety protocols during Covid and Flu season. Our therapists will sanitize all materials before and after each session to ensure that all group participants are having as little cross-contamination as possible. Our therapists are also happy to wear masks, gloves, and other PPE to the discretion of the facility.

School-Based

Helpful Harmonies is fully equipped to contract music therapy with your school district. Our therapists are trained in providing services and documentation that are compliant with IDEA, FERPA, and FAPE. They also are familiar with the Annual Review and Dismissal process and collaborating with other therapists on a student’s interdisciplinary team. We are familiar with not only working 1:1 with individuals, but also facilitating groups for early childhood programs and self-contained classrooms.

Furthermore, our staff is also equipped and trained to provide outside evaluation reports for districts or parents requesting one for their student/child. All reports are in accordance with the Related Service sections included in IDEA. Our team is always happy to collaborate with school therapy teams to provide the best and most appropriate recommendations based on a student’s needs.

Behavioral Hospitals and Treatment Facilities

Helpful Harmonies Music Therapy contracts with residential treatment centers, hospitals, and foster care programs in the Greater Houston Area to provide both group and individual therapy. We serve children, adolescents and adults in both outpatient and residential settings, as well as private clients in our Friendswood clinic.

Helpful Harmonies takes a person-centered approach. This means that we may have an idea of what we would like to work on that day with the group — but the group members ultimately determine which route we actually take once our therapist arrives.

These are a few reasons of why we believe it is important to have an “organic” session in a music therapy setting like this:

  • It supports group members’ needs — What if we planned to address confidence and control — but everyone in the therapy group is having high anxiety that day? It may not be appropriate to discuss issues of confidence and control; the group members may advocate that they are in need of relaxation.

  • It allows unstructured expression — In a treatment center, the daily structure is quite strict. Everything throughout the day is scheduled for patients. While there are free times, there is still an order to the day. We know that, throughout the recovery process, this structure is so important, but we want to give our patients a time that they can use the way they need to — possibly allowing for some “unstructured expression.”

  • It helps group members meet their goals — We like to think about working to meet the goals of the individuals — and what they are requiring in a given moment or day. We believe in relinquishing some of the control of group sessions to the patients in the group; this is so important to the recovery process.
