Music Therapist Job Openings

Part-time with opportunity to grow into full-time | Friendswood, Texas | W-2

Are you a creative, compassionate music therapist who wants the freedom to build meaningful work - and a team fully in your corner? Helpful Harmonies Music Therapy is growing, and we are looking for a Music Therapist to help us shape what comes next.

 

This position will begin part-time, typically across two to three consistent workdays, with the opportunity to build toward a full-time schedule as the caseload grows. A future full-time schedule is anticipated to include approximately 20-25 direct client hours per week, along with paid time for documentation, planning, collaboration, meetings, travel between work locations, and other assigned responsibilities.

Helpful Harmonies Music Therapy is a neurodiversity-affirming, humanistic, and relationship-centered practice based in Friendswood, Texas. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment for people seeking accessible therapy and to provide superior support throughout the therapeutic process.

The Opportunity

You will not be hired simply to fill open appointment times. As a growing practice, we want your perspective, creativity, and professional interests to matter. You will have meaningful autonomy in your clinical work and opportunities to help create programs, resources, systems, and community partnerships alongside Haleigh and Sophie.

 

If there is an area you care deeply about - community outreach, social media, caregiver education, online resources, marketing, program development, school partnerships, or something we have not considered yet - we want to hear your ideas. This role is ideal for a therapist who can work independently without ever feeling like they are working alone.

What your caseload may include

  • Individual music therapy sessions across the lifespan, with a primary emphasis on children

  • Adapted music lessons

  • School-based music therapy services in public or private educational settings

  • Small and large therapeutic groups

  • Music enrichment programs

  • Services in therapy centers, facilities, and community settings

  • Community events and outreach programs

  • Travel from the Friendswood clinic to nearby surrounding communities as caseload needs develop

Who we hope to meet

  • A graduate of an AMTA-approved music therapy degree or equivalency program.

  • Board Certified as a Music Therapist (MT-BC). Exam-eligible candidates may be considered and must meet Helpful Harmonies' certification timeline.

  • A warm, reliable, organized, and responsive communicator with strong clinical judgment and documentation skills.

  • A flexible therapist who is comfortable working with varied ages, populations, group sizes, and service settings.

  • A confident musician who can adapt voice, guitar, keyboard, percussion, and other tools to client needs.

  • Someone who values neurodiversity-affirming care, client autonomy, relationship-based practice, collaboration, and continued growth.

  • Someone with a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel locally for services.

  • Someone able to complete required background, reference, and credential checks.

Experience with children, disabled or neurodivergent clients, school-based services, IEP teams, adapted lessons, or group facilitation is especially helpful, but newer clinicians with strong values alignment and a desire to grow are encouraged to apply.

What will you do

  • Provide individualized, evidence-informed music therapy services that reflect each client's strengths, goals, communication style, and support needs.

  • Complete assessments, treatment plans, data collection, session documentation, progress reports, and other required clinical writing accurately and on time.

  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, caregivers, schools, facilities, and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Plan and facilitate individual sessions, adapted lessons, groups, enrichment programs, and community events.

  • Maintain MT-BC status and practice within AMTA standards and the CBMT Code of Professional Practice.

  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, training, feedback, and ongoing professional development.

  • Contribute to an area of practice growth that aligns with your interests and the needs of the community.

Compensation and benefits

  • Pay: $25-$30 per hour, based on certification, education, experience, and specialized skills.

  • W-2 employment

  • Compensation for all required work time, with mileage reimbursement handled separately

  • General and professional liability insurance coverage

  • Healthcare stipend, subject to current eligibility terms

  • Paid time off: Five days annually for part-time employees and ten days annually for employees working 30+ hours, beginning after three months of employment

  • Paid company holidays for eligible employees under current policy

  • Mileage reimbursement for approved business travel

  • CBMT maintenance-fee reimbursement

  • CMTE tracking support from the first day of employment and up to $100 per year in approved CMTE reimbursement after three months

  • Full access to Google Workspace, Google Voice, SimplePractice, and Canva

  • Full use of Helpful Harmonies' instruments, books, movement materials, props, and clinical inventory

  • Ongoing support, feedback, training, professional development, and regular performance check-ins
