Is music therapy simply listening to music? Do you need to be able to sing or play an instrument to participate? Is it only for children?
Helpful Harmonies Music Therapy was recently featured in another episode of the Hear to Speak Podcast by Autumn Oak Speech, Voice and Hearing!
In “The Truth About Music Therapy,” Helpful Harmonies owner and board-certified music therapist Haleigh Beaird joins speech-language pathologist Megan Craft to answer common questions and clear up misconceptions about the profession.
During their conversation, Haleigh explains the difference between enjoying music and participating in music therapy, why clients do not need musical experience to benefit, and how sessions are designed around each person’s individual strengths, interests, and goals.
They also discuss how music therapy can support people across the lifespan—not only children—and explore some of the ways music may be used to encourage communication, emotional expression, regulation, confidence, social connection, attention, and learning. Haleigh and Megan also share how music therapy and speech therapy can complement one another while bringing different areas of training and expertise to a client’s care.
